Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 6-18. Since its founding in 1981 in San Diego, California, CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater in the nation. There are seventeen branches across the country providing training to thousands of students a year. CYT classes offer many benefits and opportunities to the young people of the community. Training in singing, dance, drama, makeup, set building, accents and dialects, stunts and special effects are just some of the topics offered in three 10-week terms each year in each area. Classes, limited to 25 students, are taught by experience theater arts people--teachers, performers and professionals. Some of our current teachers began their careers as students in CYT classes. Just as important as the teaching of theater arts skills is the positive effect that theatrical experience and performance has on the self-discipline, self-confidence and self esteem of young people. Some CYT students go on to pursue careers in entertainment, but they all gin poise, experience, self-confidence and an appreciation for the arts that only comes from participating in a stage production. CYT offers young people an opportunity to keep busy, to learn, to develop their talents, to interact with friends and to be positive members of their community.

CYT is headquartered in El Cajon, California, with classes offered at eight locations throughout the Southern California. CYT can be in any community. The organizational structure, curriculum and how-to manuals have been written by committed parents who have learned by experience what works. Most CYT programs begin with a group of parents who value children, support the arts and believe in traditional family values. CYT is built on the combined efforts of many and the results can be astounding.

CCT (Christian Community Theater) is the parent company, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit educational corporation. Christian Community Theater is the San Diego area's largest community theater, with auditions open to anyone who enjoys performing Broadway-style musical theater. CCT started by inviting singers, dancers and musicians from local churches to audition for "The Sound of Music" in the summer of 1980. Since then Christian Community Theater has provided performance opportunities for hundreds of actors and quality entertainment suitable for families of all ages.
CYT was started after the first year of community theater productions by CCT (Christian Community Theater) when the people involved asked Director Paul Russell to start a theater activity for their children. New CYT Areas located around the USA are licensed to operate using the CYT model, which includes organization, curriculum, original scripts and art.
