Description

This class will be an introduction to basic carpentry skills, as they relate to the construction of scenic pieces for stage and screen. Grab your parents too if they want to learn a new skill! 

In this class students will:
- Gain hands-on experience in the safe operation of a variety of power tools.
- Learn to accurately measure, mark, cut and assemble set components.
- Learn construction concepts for standard set pieces.  Platforms, theatre flats, Hollywood flats, stairs etc.
- Learn and be familiar with different types of fasteners and what application each should be used in.
- Learn to read and understand basic dimensional drawings.
- Help construct set pieces for the winter main stage show, Anastasia!

Matt Church has been building sets here at CYT Phoenix since 2019. He is looking forward to sharing the knowledge he has learned about theater set building with you! Matt is a Christian, Husband and father of 2. He enjoys playing the guitar, recording music, cycling, playing golf, and woodworking.
